Tongariro Guided Walks

Tongariro Crossing Guided Walks
The Tongariro Crossing is regularly listed as one of the world's best walks. It is a long day walk crossing high over a volcanic plateau in the North Island's most dramatic national park - the Tongariro National Park. You pass close by active volcanoes, extraordinarily turquoise sulphur lakes and across landscapes that bear the marks of past eruptions. Walking Places is the Central North Island's leading hiking outfitter, offering guided walks on tracks in and around the Tongariro National Park.
There are many reasons to choose a guided walking experience. Some people seek the safety and reassurance they have local knowledge on weather and track conditions, while others are looking for the story behind the landscape. Many use the opportunity to spend a day with “one of the locals”, or maybe you just want someone to make the most of your time by finding you the most scenic spots, and take care of all of the bother about how to get there and back, and what to take along. Whatever your reason, contact Walking Places, who will be happy to help make your time in this fantastic area the best it can be.
Tongariro Guided Walks was started in 2004 out of a desire to provide the best possible guided walking experience in and around the Tongariro National Park. The staff have diverse backgrounds from within the Adventure Tourism and Outdoor Education industries, and genuinely enjoy sharing their passion for this amazing area.

Join us to find out why this is often referred to as the best one day walk in New Zealand, (if not the world), with a guide who will reveal some of the secrets of this stunning area. Enjoy an unhurried experience over Tongariro, as we avoid the crowds, because we are walking at your pace, and not to a bus timetable. Take in the varied colours and textures and the landscape changes dramatically throughout the day.
