UPPER NORTH ISLAND
Coromandel Peninsula
Coromandel
Just 2 hours drive south of Auckland is The Coromandel, a small but beautiful peninsula with gorgeous beaches, green forests, which still harbour ancient kauri trees, pretty towns and a laid-back lifestyle. It is a perfect place to slow down, unwind and relax. The eastern coasts are particularly beautiful with beaches such as Hahei and Hot Water Beach (you can dig yourself your own hot sand spa there at low tide). Enjoy coastal hikes, kayaking, explore remote northern beaches or bike the new Hauraki Rail Trail. Kayaking at Cathedral Cove is especially recommended as the nearby marine reserve ensures good sealife. Harley Davidson enthusiasts can tour the coastal roads with Bularangi motorbike tours, the winding coastline is perfect for this.
