Day Tours
Arthur's Pass You can choose to travel on the iconic Tranzalpine train to Arthur's Pass Alpine Village where you will experience stunning waterfalls, mountain beech forests and a chance to see the highly intelligent and colourful Kea, a mountain parrot voted New Zealand's most popular bird.
Akaroa The French Village of Akaroa with its boutique shops, entwined with a strong Maori culture, is just over the hill from Christchurch. This trip offers a harbour cruise with a chance to see one of the world's rarest dolphins, the Hector dolphin, along with other amazing bird and marine life.
Kaikoura travel north through rich farmland, past wineries and experience a whale watch cruise, or flight, where the sperm whale is always the star of the show.
City Tours Also available is the option to explore Christchurch City, travel to the local wine region for informative wine tours or discover the varied native and exotic plants on our garden tours.
South Island Transfers
Combine a day's sightseeing with a transfer from Christchurch to Queenstown, Arthur's Pass, Kaikoura, or Picton.
Short Hop, Multi-Day and Tailor-Made Tours
Our short hop and multi-day South Island tours explore stunning mountains, lakes, primeval forests, and native bush, as well as rugged West Coast beaches and glaciers that drop to near sea level. A helicopter flight to snowy mountain plateaus and kayaking on still deep waters, are also options, as is a visit to a sheep station, winery, or the greenstone (pounamu) attractions of the West Coast.

Directions
PICK UP/DROP OFF: Where stated, Canterbury Trails will pick up and drop off passengers from most major central city accommodation properties. We request passengers to be waiting in the lobby prior to the stated pick-up time to avoid any delays. For those who are staying outside of the central city, a private tour will usually be required, or alternatively, you can make your own arrangements to meet us at an agreed pickup point in the CBD. Please be aware that due to events beyond our control, eg heavy traffic congestion and roadworks within central Christchurch may delay our tour departures or arrivals may be delayed by up to 30 minutes.

PASSENGER NUMBERS: Minimum of 2
CHILDREN: Children under 2 are free, 2 – 12 years pay 50% of adult price
PRICE & PAYMENT: Canterbury Trails reserves the right to alter prices, schedules and/or inclusions advertised without prior notice. All prices are in New Zealand dollars and include GST. Payment is required at the time of booking. We accept most major credit cards via our booking system. A credit card fee applies
PUBLIC HOLIDAY SURCHARGE: There is a NZ$50.00 nett per person surcharge on the following public holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter Friday, Easter Sunday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day.
CANCELLATION & AMENDMENT POLICY: Canterbury Trails reserves the right to charge a cancellation fee and/or recover all disbursement incurred on all tours where less than 7 days; notice of cancellation is given. Cancellations made between 7 days of departure will incur a 50% cancellation fee and cancellations made within 48 hours are non-refundable. If your local activity/tour is cancelled (due to unsuitable sea or weather conditions) a partial refund on that portion of the tour may apply. We recommend our passengers have travel insurance.
ON WATER ACTIVITIES & WILDLIFE: The comfort and safety of our clients is of paramount importance to us. If the weather conditions are not suitable some of our tour activities may be cancelled by the operator up to 15 minutes before their scheduled departure. Canterbury Trails will offer a partial refund if your local activity is cancelled, and no other suitable alternative can be arranged. Your guide will provide details on the day. New Zealand is renowned for its abundance of wildlife however, there is no guarantee that local wildlife, particularly whales or dolphins, will be seen on these tours.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: The Health and Safety of our guides and guests is of utmost importance to us. Canterbury Trails requires the full names of every passenger travelling on our day tours. While we can accommodate most levels of fitness on our tours, we also reserve the right to refuse any passengers if we are not completely satisfied that it is practicable and safe for them to participate. We may refuse to carry a passenger displaying flu-like symptoms – a full refund will be provided. Passengers must advise if they have any physical conditions or concerns that may affect their safety or enjoyment of our tours. Passengers must wear seat belts and follow all reasonable instructions given by our staff before, during and after the tour. Passengers are responsible for the safety and protection of their own personal possessions at all times.
