These are backcountry adventures through historic Skippers Canyon or Macetown exploring Lord of The Rings film locations, offering stunning scenery, local history and unique local stories. No coaches, no crowds: just pure adventure.
Nomad Safaris offers small, personalised tours into the New Zealand backcountry, exploring historic gold mining areas and a selection of filming locations used in The Lord of The Rings and other movies. Nomad Safaris has been operating for over 25 years and over that time has built up a fleet of 16 true off road vehicles, including Land Rover Defenders and Toyota Land Cruisers, making it the largest commercial fleet of Land Rover vehicles in New Zealand. Nomad Safaris' large fleet, combined with an ability to subcontract other vehicles means that we can comfortably manage Conference and Incentive groups of well over 150 people.

Lord of The Rings Tours
Nomad Safaris is one of New Zealand’s original Lord of The Rings tour companies with over 10 years of experience sharing our passion for Tolkien with visitors to the Queenstown region.
Immerse yourself in the scenery made famous by the films. This is a dream-like landscape, the embodiment of Middle-Earth, woven with a fascinating history and legendary stories.
On scenic tours, you can experience the unprecedented natural beauty of this part of New Zealand in comfort and safety, with a knowledgeable local guide on hand to provide comprehensive insight into the many film projects undertaken in the area.

4WD Off-Road
Experience true four-wheel-driving on a small group, personalised tour into the New Zealand backcountry. Nomad Safaris has over 25 years of experience operating guided tours into remote Skippers Canyon and Macetown and to Lord of the Rings locations around Glenorchy and the Wakatipu Basin. These are authentic adventures packed with local history, movie locations, stunning scenery, and thrilling off-roading.
Half-day tours depart twice daily from Queenstown accommodations and include refreshments, or combine two different tours for a full day adventure.
Group sizes are kept small with a maximum of 6 clients per driver/guide to ensure that you receive a personal experience.
